Sir.
With reference to your despatch No.114 of the 21st
of April, 1922, on the subject of the claim by the Veenendaal sche Stoomapinnerij and Weverij to the proceeds of the sale of certain cotton piece goods under the liquidation of the German firm of Messrs. Meyerink and Company, I have the honour to inform you that as this fim, on being approached by the liquidators in 1917 denied any interest in the goods, the sum in question namely $7,212 (not 87,217 as stated by the Dutch Company) has been credited to Messrs. Meyerink and Company in the general liquidation account with Germany.
2.
There is no doubt that the money is owing to the Dutch Company but I see no reason why we should now accept their claim which they deliberately renounced five years ago.
The Company should be compelled to take the matter up with Messrs. Meyerink and Company direct, who will receive credit from the German Government for the sum in question.
3. The matter would appear however to be one for the decision of the General Clearing Office and I would only suggest that if the claim be eventually accepted the Veenendaalsche Stoomspinnerij and Weverij should not receive any advantage in the matter of the rate of exchange at which the sun should be
paid.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient humble servant,
ChurSeven
Officer Administering the Government.
